The way I see it, protestors are just following the footsteps of our Founding Fathers. In the colonial days, America was being abused by Great Britain, right? Americans tried to peacefully work out a better way. They went to the king, begged for reform, and were ignored. So what did they do? They had the Boston Tea Party (a riot). They tarred and feathered British soldiers. They had a whole war
. I'm not saying America should get into a civil war with itself; I'm just saying the riots and protests are justified. People are fed up with being degraded, hurt, beaten, and killed for no reason.
Some people are right– maybe there is another way. Probably not, but maybe. The only other way I can think of is giving this time. I believe in the kindness of humanity, and I believe that one day racism will fade from memory.
But you know what? We don't have time. We're out of time. Breonna Taylor is out of time. Emmett Till is out of time. So many dead, innocent people are out of time. Until systematic racism is ended, countless more will die. We don't have time to wait for the system to end– we need to act now. Or more lives will be lost, and the blood will be on America's hands for not fixing the problem.
